Húsnæði.is is a platform that brings Icelandic and international information on housing together in one place. The aim is for the general public and researchers alike to use the site as a first step in gathering data on the main issues relating to housing.

Már Wolfgang Mixa

The site is overseen by Már Wolfgang Mixa, professor at the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland. Már has researched housing for many years, was the main architect of using private pension savings to pay down loans and buy a first home, and has taught the pros and cons of different mortgage types for years.

Yet the information is often scattered, complex or coloured by sales interests. Húsnæði.is brings it together in one place and presents it in clear, neutral language. The platform is linked to academic work and built on public data and research. There are no sales pitches here, no loan offers and no advertised rates — only knowledge, data and sources.

What Húsnæði.is is not

Not an estate agency, and it does not list properties for sale or rent. Not a bank, lender or loan broker. Not a sales or marketing platform, and it does not advertise loan terms. Not a place for personal financial advice — but for general education.

Editorial team

The site is supervised and edited by Már Wolfgang Mixa, associate professor. Material is drawn from public data, research and legislation, with an emphasis on neutral and accessible presentation.
